It contributes with the progress the students have during a period of time. It shows what students can do on a variety of measures, plus, it is a source where it is documented the students educational background.

How do we assess a portfolio?
A portfolio is a type of assessment, in which the teacher needs to consider what items are going to be on it; also, depending on the teacher, students are asked to reflect on their work (self-assessment).
